Dr. John R. Rice said at one of the meetings with Pastors
attending:
"Why do you think I include several sermons, word for word, in each
of the "Sword of the Lord" weekly papers?" He added, "It is to give
you preachers something to preach."
I have heard preachers say: "I would never preach another
man's
sermon." I thought, after hearing that man's sermon he ought to
preach sermons from other preachers. Do you get my point?
I must say, if it were not for men like John Rice, Tom Malone,
and
Herschel Ford who published the Simple Sermons series and from
other great men, I would have failed in the ministry.
I have always pastored small, failing churches here in the
States. They
were all running around 50 in attendance at the beginning. We built those
churches up until they could not seat anymore people. We won people
by door to door soul winning, not by stealing members from other churches.
Be all the glory to God!
I could say a lot more but let me say this: "Listen to and
read other sermons
by Godly preachers to feed your own soul and to get information and ideas
to help you with your own sermon preparation." Do not let pride retard your
ministry. God bless you. Mel Brown
